I have raised two running children, one competitive and one not.

I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Work towards a faster marathon by Spring 2012.

Get my 5K down to 21:30.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Joining Forrest Gump

Two nights in my own bed after returning from Paris and off to Tacoma for this 1/2.  I drive down and spend the night, since its a 2 1/2 hour drive, and just a bit too much to tackle early in the am before the race.  I did this same race last year, and PRd with a 1:50:12, AND placed first in my age.  I liked the course; its rolling hilly with a fast finish.  This year, it was suddenly cooler and rainy; kind of a shock to my system.  I took the bus from the hotel near the finish line and spent WAY too long shivering and cold out at the airplane hangar where the race starts.  Finally, I did my warm up a bit too early, just to get warm.

I was supposed to start out at 8 minute miles, speeding up SLIGHTLY at about 15k if I felt good.  I was absolutely determined to follow this plan!  This was supposed to get me a 1:45.  I SERIOUSLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!  I was completely incapable of running 8:00 from the start, so I blew the whole race by starting out a good 30 seconds faster in the first three miles!  I just felt so good to finally be running after all the waiting and freezing.  This is really not an excuse; I guess I just have no self discipline.  Anyway, I'll never know what would have happened if I had followed my plan, and I really regreat this.  On the positive side, I am stronger than last year, so am able to run a race stupidly but slightly faster.

Biking this afternoon to recover.

Hey nice job. A good PR after all that travel is impressive.

Congratulations on the PR!! Great race after travel Auntie! working on pacing would be good, however, you pr'd by over 2 minutes which is still great!

Enjoy getting back into the "routine" and welcome home!

You are far too hard on yourself! You did well, and as I recall that start is very crowded the first mile and it's easy to get "caught up" in the rush. I'm sorry you got my weather instead of yours, but at least it wasn't too hot! Congratulations!

I know I am hard on myself! I always get this little let down feeling after a race, and I think this one is worse because I am finally able to give in to the jet lag and tiredness from the trip. The thing I am contented with about this race, actually, is that my AP is just a speck faster than my MP. So that is good.

And, Bonnie, the pacing is why I am so annoyed with myself. I had VERY SPECIFIC instructions, and we had a long discussion about the pacing, and had absolutely decided that I should start at 8:00 minute miles. How I could have just NOT DONE IT is really beyond my rational brain.

Can I still be friends with you now that you are faster than me?

You are so super...and way to hard on yourself!

Congratulations on the PR! I always pay for it if I go out too fast. Maybe you would have been even faster if you had taken those early miles a little easier.
