I have learned to run in ice and snow and I don't complain.

Place in my division at duathlon and triathlon.

Train for biathlon.

Victoria is done; Portland never happened.  I don't really need to say more, do I?

I know that most people in my life (and maybe a few of you on this blog as well), thought I was insane to run Victoria after what happened in Portland, but it was absolutely the best thing that I could have done to get over it.  My time is crappy, and for once I don't even care. It was a terrifically fun race; wonderful to see Sno and family!  I can say very honestly that I enjoyed every single mile of the run.

My first half was a few minutes faster than planned, but by mile 18, I had to admit that I was not recovered enough from last week's miles to have a great time on this one.  So, I just settled in and enjoyed the scenery and the people.  The spectator support was great, and very funny.  I even helped a guy work his calf muscle out a bit towards the end; got him walking again and went on.  At mile 24, I saw a man being loaded onto a stretcher and cried for 1/2 mile.  All the tears that I held in all last week.

So glad the week is over; I'm not going to run with my Garmin for at least three weeks.  I want to run like crazy in the mud and trails.  The next marathon will be about performance; this one was about healing and fun!

Thanks for your support, everyone!

I am so happy you came to run here!! To comfort and encourage us both, none of the top 4 runners had a negative split on this course, not even the incredible Kenyan winner. (http://www.raceheadquarters.com/results/2009/run/RVM2009Marathon.html) And you were coming off a HARD 16 mile run at Portland plus the trauma that followed. You are so strong - even though your race took it out of you, you were out of hobble mode within a couple of hours. There are so many things I admire about you and I'm honored to have shared this experience with you. Have a fun time running just for pleasure in the next few weeks!

I'm so glad that this race worked out well for you and that it worked its magical restorative on you. You are now officially a marathoner.

It sounds like it was a really fun race and that you and the Sno family had a fun time together. A race is so much more fun when you can do it with friends, even if you don't run together.

You are one tough cookie to get back on that marathon horse like you did. Way to go!

And I'm impressed with your positive attitude about mud. I think I prefer my dry roads.

Congratulations on successfully completing a marathon! Um...you posted your time as 1:18 for the race. At first I thought maybe you passed out again and didn't finish. Anyway, not that time matters, but I'm curious if you ran a 3:18, 4:18, 5:18? Maybe you ran a 2:18, in which case I recommend you quit your day job and hit the marathon circuit immediately...

JD - Thanks for pointing that out! I can't seem to fix it, so it'll just have to stay that way. It was 4:18, by the way. Thanks for thinking it could have been 3:18! Next time, though.

Carolyn: I don't have a positive attitude about mud, I just LOVE IT!

Sno - such a treat to share that race with you! I know that when I look back at this race, I'll have nothing but happy memories.

April - Absolutely more! Looking for one for spring, and I've already been talked into Chicago for Fall.

All right!! You did it! And that is an hour faster than my only marathon, so don't be too down on how slow it is, or I'll feel bad.
